Every January, my feed becomes a glittery cyber battlefield of “New Year, New You!” posts.
New diet, new wardrobe, new posh planners, new personality, new skin-care routine, new gym membership, basically, complete personal reinvention in 31 days, or you’ve failed the mission.
New Year, New You? No thanks. Boudoir isn’t a resolution, it’s rebellion. A year-round invitation to feel desired and wholly yourself. I don’t need a new you. And you certainly don’t need a new you to book a boudoir session.
I’d like to respectfully (and of course with impeccable lipstick) say:
New Year, New You is bullshit!
There, I said it.
And I didn’t even have to manifest it on a vision board.
Boudoir Isn’t Seasonal. It’s Sensual.
People love to pretend confidence is something you buy on sale in January and forget about by spring.
But a boudoir session isn’t a seasonal fruit; it doesn’t expire when Dry January does.
A Boudoir session could be in:
✔ March, when the world is still beige and uninspiring.
✔ July, when you’re sun-kissed and unstoppable.
✔ October, when you emerge from knitwear season ready to be the main character again.
✔ And yes, January, if the mood strikes.
I’m giving the middle finger to the idea that you must improve yourself to be worthy!
Women come to me for all sorts of reasons, none of them are “I hated myself until January 1st blessed me.”
More honest motivations look like:
“My husband keeps hinting and I’d like to watch his brain melt.”
“I just turned 40 and refuse to go quietly.”
“I survived a shit year and want a trophy, thanks.”
“I’m done waiting for approval.”
“Because why the hell not?”
These are not resolutions. These are rebellions.
And frankly, rebellions make better photographs.
If you’re worried about what the imaginary panel of judges in your head (or your mother-in-law) might think, you’re in fantastic company. I wrote about that here: Things We Think People Will Think If We Dare Book a Boudoir Session
Stop Waiting for the Perfect Version of Yourself
You know who never books sessions? Women waiting for “when I lose ten pounds,” “after I’m less stressed,” “when work calms down,” “after summer,” or “when I feel more confident.” Confidence is the party favour you take home with you after.
So no, I’m not interested in “New Year, New Start.” How about New Year, Same Woman—Just More Dangerous. More expressive. More awake in her own skin. More willing to be witnessed. Imagine showing up to the rest of the year with that energy.
And if you’re looking for a sign? This isn’t one.
Signs are for roadworks and horoscopes. What I’m offering is an invitation. Boudoir is for when you’re ready to feel something exciting, no matter what month the calendar thinks it is. If that’s January, fabulous. If that’s May, I’ll chill the Prosecco. If that’s November, we’ll make art out of the gloom.
Whenever it is, do it for you, not for a trend cycle that expires in six weeks. It’s yours whenever you want it!
Lots of new things planned for 2026 – the best place to never miss a thing is to sign up to my monthly newsletter (just saying, because being late to the party sucks!)
